Underground Zero

While on the topic of subways, I rode a different one a few weeks ago, the PATH between New York and its more urban New Jersey suburbs. It was the first time I’d been to the World Trade Center site in several years and I was distressed to find that, due to construction of that damnable Freedom Tower (whimsically designed to look like a plate of fries), the train no longer circles through the post-apocalyptic pit left by those talented theme park designers over at Al Qaeda.

Too bad. It was cool. A New York Legoland of terror, but, seemingly, more permanent.

Hours after my disappointment (and it could hardly have been a coincidence) Osama Bin Laden was killed.

I gotta do something to stave off this old ennui. I wonder if Pakistani transit runs through the tattered ruins of his mansion.
