People who live in apartments should make the elements of their daily lives as invisible as possible to the other inhabitants of their building. There should be no smells, no sounds, no evidence of any kind that these individuals even exist, save a nameplate on a mailbox or next to a buzzer. It should be as if a neutron bomb has hit the building. This is the hallmark of good neighborliness.
And if you need something, you should be able to knock on their doors. If they don’t answer, they are scum.
